I've only been brewing for a year(on year 2). first year several disasters. This year, what I am is creating great results.

I use 3 containers.

Appleseed-
1. on the bottom where the pipe elbows I put in a tee and shutoff. That way I can use a suction pump to clean out junk.
2. I setup a hose connection like the meth connections, but have a hose that i can turn on and fill and drain junk. Basic house cleaning for next process.
3. I took the temp gauge which is(according to directions on the bottom) and put it on the top above the inlet, easier to read.

55 gallon barrel without lid(open). I filter (2 whisky barrel rings with window screen filter-both rings press together and hold the screen),oil into this barrel and use a barrel heater to heat it up and burn water. Works great, except that junk settles to the bottom.
So, This is how I solved that problem: I use Two quick connects on the bottom. One straight out and the other to the side. I rigged up a pump( Harbor freight type), and make a connection from front line to inlet and then use another line (quick connect) to extend a line into the barrel with a garden faucet spray nossel on the end.

3rd container is a plastic cone bottom.
I settle ,wash, dry in this tank. I also rigged up the line to the pump as I did the dry tank.

The barrel should be metal pipes and the plastic can be plastic hose.

I hope this helps a little. Every batch is a different experience.
